Revolve NTNU Team 2023 RevolveDagen Event Branding

About

Revolve NTNU is a voluntary student organization at NTNU Trondheim competing in the largest engineering competition for students in the whole world: Formula Student. More than 1000 teams compete, and this organization is amongst the top 10 teams.

Each year, the team produces two formula style electric race cars: one requiring a driver and one driverless.

All photos of the cars are credit to the team.

The work

For Team 2023, Mia Li Elisenberg was a part of their team as a graphic designer, videographer and photographer. This included work using the Adobe Creative Suite to create posters, flyers, and other promotional material.

Each year, the team hosts their very own career fair, RevolveDagen, at NTNU Trondheim Campus Gløshaugen. Here, sponsors are invited to hold stands and presentations for the students of NTNU.

The work consisted of physical posters for physical marketing and digital assets for online marketing, such as social media posts and headers.

The process

One of the goals of this year’s event was to differentiate the event itself from the usual Formula Student activities of the team, in order to focus on the attending companies and targeting the visiting students.

To contribute to this goal, a design concept was developed thoroughly. The design concept had to fit the target group, as well as not straying too far away from the team’s branding. Additionally, it had to consider the theme of the presentations that were being held during the event.

Methods

Customer (target group) personas and journeys were mapped out.

The mood board was developed and it significantly changed as the implementation phase was started on in parallel.

The creation of a venn diagram of Revolve NTNU and this year’s main speaker, WAE Technologies, contributed greatly in finalizing the design concept.

The final concept

Building blocks

The commonalities between Revolve NTNU and WAE Technologies, as well as the attending companies and visiting students, came down to …

  • Engineering

  • Learning

  • Innovation

  • STEM

  • Dedication

  • Ambition

The playfulness and simple essence of building blocks naturally fit. In order to create something bigger, you need smaller pieces. Building blocks are also part of many people’s childhood learning experience. It’s a concept people will relate to.

Methods

A 3D model of the cube stack, which mimics a Rubik’s cube, was created in Cinema 4D in order to get the perspective and rotations right.

The illustrations were made in Procreate on an iPad Pro.

The typography and implementation of logos and branding were added in Adobe Illustrator.
